Scheduling an Election
An election can be scheduled by contacting the Chapter Chief of your Chapter or by using our Request an Election electronic form, located here.
Youth Eligibility
To become a member, a youth must be a registered member of a Boy Scout troop or Varsity Scout team and hold First Class rank. The youth must have experienced 15 days and nights of camping during the two years before his election. The 15 days and nights must include one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of six consecutive days and five nights of resident camping, approved and under the auspices and standards of the Boy Scouts of America. The balance of the camping must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps. Scouts are elected to the Order by their fellow troop or Varsity team members, following approval by the Scoutmaster or Varsity Scout Coach.
Adult Eligibility
To become a member, an adult (21 years old or older) must be a registered member of a Boy Scout troop or Varsity Scout team. The adult must have experienced 15 days and nights of camping during the two years before his nomination. The 15 days and nights must include one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of six consecutive days and five nights of resident camping, approved and under the auspices and standards of the Boy Scouts of America. The balance of the camping must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps. Adults are nominated to the Order of the Arrow by their Unit. A unit may only nominate one adult for every 50 active youth in its membership. Additionally, an adult nomination can only occur if at least one youth was elected in the same year.
